We had just hit the 75 mark, and after the busy holiday season, 25 hats seemed a little lofty for our small little group. It was nice to have things settled after the hustle and bustle of Christmas, and we were able to really relax and enjoy making hats.
We didn't count the hats as we went along, as we normally do. We just created. When the hats were done, we put them in little piles. Before we knew it, everywhere we looked, there seemed to be a hat.
As the month neared the end, we shared a little good-natured banter back and forth about who would get bragging rights for the 100th hat. (We can get competitive at times!) Although we still hadn't done an official count, we both had hats nearing completion on the night we thought we would hit the big 100.
Of course, we both rushed off to our respective crochet corners to try and finish first. We must have both been crocheting fast and furiously that night, because we both finished our hats within just a couple minutes of each other, unable to determine an undisputed 'winner.'
After the official count, it became pretty clear who actually got bragging rights for the 100th hat. We found out about 6 lovely hats being sent to us from Minnesota, throwing our count well over 100! Considering shipping time, it's fair to say her six were complete before either of our two hats. We would like to congratulate Cathy, that was a pretty great (and sneaky!) way to grab the title!
Ok, do we sound crazy yet? We can be competitive with our hats. (And trust me, you don't want to see us when we find a really GREAT yarn...) It really is all in good fun, and it's just another way to keep us motivated.
As for the final count for January? 109! Our hooks were definitely smoking, this averaged out to a hat a day!
Hmmm... I won't mind taking honors for the 365th hat of 2013 as the ball drops at the end of the year!!!
