It’s also the time of the year when we start to get more and more bewildered looks after telling people we make hats for patients. You can almost see people thinking “But its summertime...” or “But you live in Texas…” Who would possibly want a hat?
And, yes, having lived in The Lone Star State for nearly all of my life, I can agree, the Texas sun is brutal! This is exactly why there is still a need for hats in the warmer months.
Doctors typically advise patients undergoing chemo to protect their scalps by using sunscreen and keeping it covered. The skin atop our heads is particularly tender and quite easy to burn, so look at us like we are nuts, but there is still a need for hats!
Obviously, in the summer, no one wants to reach for a thick, bulky stocking cap. The beautiful thing about yarn is that it is available in so many different weights (thickness) and fibers. We have stocked up on some gorgeous natural fiber yarns made of cotton and bamboo. (Yes, bamboo!) Not only are these yarns incredibly soft, but they are breathable.
The hat style makes a big difference too. We have been experimenting with some very lovely, lacier designs. We have also gotten several brimmed hats in, perfect for keeping the sun out of the eyes. Another great option is a slouchy: nice, loose and roomy hats that I personally think look great on everyone.
Please keep us in mind during these warm months! Tell a friend about us, keep the hats coming, and most importantly, let us know if you know someone who needs a stylish summer hat!
Other Cuddles news:
- We were absolutely ecstatic when we recently received 2 separate donations of hats in one day from Marie R. and Linda M! Both shipments totaled 35 hats and 4 adorable pairs of booties. There were so many beautiful hats, in a rainbow of colors; these will make so many people very happy. We are truly overwhelmed with gratitude!
- On May 10, we will be participating in The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life Event in League City! We will be participating in the walk and will have a basket of hats and information at the event. We are very excited about this event, check back for pictures!
